Find firms

Find law firms by practice area, headcount, and location

Practice area lives on the website, not in a database. That is the whole difficulty, and also the opening: read the site and the segment builds itself.

try

Law firms are easy to enumerate and hard to qualify. Nobody files their practice mix anywhere useful, directory listings go stale quietly, and a firm name tells you nothing about whether it runs twelve attorneys or two hundred. The answers all sit on the firm's own pages.

So read what they publish. Open Web Ninja and Serper return the firms, their offices, and the search results for every practice area a firm ranks on, which an AI column reads into a practice column. People Data Labs resolves the organization and the attorneys it holds inside it, and Blitz API with LeadMagic behind it turns a named administrator into an address.

Example searches

Ask for it the way you'd say it

Every search below runs on the same hosted Tables, with the cost previewed before anything is spent.

  • Practice mix, not firm name

law firms in illinois that handle employment defense and have at least fifteen attorneys

Practice areas come from what the firm publishes and ranks for, so the filter reflects the work it takes today rather than a category set years ago.

  • Boutique or full service

firms with three or fewer practice areas listed and a single office

Office count and area count arrive as numbers, which turns boutique into a filter instead of a judgement call.

  • The person who buys software

find the firm administrator or director of operations at each of these firms

At smaller firms that is the managing partner, and the row records which role actually resolved.

Plays

Three motions you can run this week

Each one is a chain of Oxygen primitives — the same hosted objects your workspace already has, composed.

  • Practice-area segments

One sourcing run becomes four segments, each with an opener that fits.

    1. 1Read the published practice areas into a column, then tag each firm with what it names.
    2. 2Enroll each tag into a sequence written for that practice, not for lawyers in general.

  • Administrator, not attorney

Outreach lands with the person who actually evaluates the tools.

    1. 1Resolve the operations or administration role first, and the managing partner second.
    2. 2Promote both onto the firm record so the follow up has somewhere to land.

  • Office-level coverage

A multi-office firm stays one account with several places to start.

    1. 1Group offices under one firm record so nobody works the same firm twice.
    2. 2Keep the per-office contact on the row for the territory that owns it.

Roles you can find at law firms and legal practices

Filters you can search on

  • Practice areas a firm publishes and ranks for
  • Attorney or fee-earner count
  • Office count and cities
  • Jurisdictions and bar admissions named
  • Boutique, mid-size, or full service
  • Client portal or intake platform detected
  • Languages the firm advertises
  • Year the firm was founded

Firms publish their people, which makes person coverage unusually good. What is weak is anything financial: billing model, revenue, and matter volume are not public, and directory attorney counts are often years out of date. Nothing here reads a page sitting behind a client login.

Data sources

What the data actually comes from

Every value lands with its provider and cost recorded on the cell.

  • Op

    Open Web Ninja

Firm listings by city and practice category, with address and switchboard number.

  • Serper

Search and map results that surface firms with a weak directory presence.

  • People Data Labs

The firm as an organization, with staff counts and the named people inside it.

  • Blitz API

Work email for partners and administrators, resolved from their own public profiles.

  • LeadMagic

Catches administrators at firms whose only published address is an intake inbox.

Run these on Oxygen's managed credits, or connect your own provider keys and pay the vendor directly — the same columns, the same runs, the same provenance either way. See every integration.

Limits

Where this stops

  • Attorney counts drift badly. A directory number is often years old, and a headcount from company records includes staff who never bill, so keep the count as a band and confirm it before it decides a segment.

FAQ

Questions people ask first

Can I filter by practice area?
Yes. An AI column reads the practice-area pages a firm publishes out of the search results and writes them into a column. That is far more current than a directory category, which a firm set once at registration and never revisited.
Who is the buyer at a law firm?
It depends on size. Below roughly fifteen attorneys the managing partner decides and pays. Above that, an administrator or director of operations runs evaluation and brings partners in at the end.
How accurate is attorney count?
Counted from the people records held against the organization it is a workable band. Taken from a directory it is often years stale. Keep both columns and let the disagreement tell you which firms are worth a manual check.
Can I find firms by the software they run?
Partly. Client portals, payment pages, and intake forms leave public traces that become columns. Case management usually runs internally and leaves nothing, so absence is not evidence.
How do I handle multi-office firms?
Dedupe to one firm record and keep the offices as rows beneath it. The territory owner still gets a local contact, and nobody sends the same firm four different openers.
Does the list stay current?
Run it on a schedule. Partner moves and office changes surface as a changed cell with a date, and a firm that stops answering a listing check is flagged before your sender pays for it.
